The Points Chase: Stock and Super Stock

With five NHRA Nationals Events left in the season the points chase is firing up, but also coming to a close. Hopefuls take their stabs at upcoming events, and some have to sit back and hope there score is strong enough to last. Current leader in Stock is Joe Santangelo ending his points chase where he wanted to in the winners circle, in his last race to claim at the Maple Grove National two weeks ago. Completing that race he finished his year off with a stout 644 points. He is now claimed out. 42 Points out of first is Jody Lang, finishing the year off strong he won his last two races he entered, totaling three wins on the divisional side of the score. He will be improving a second round, before he starts adding to his score, not the worst situation but also no the easiest task on hand. Alison Doll is also there with three divisional wins, and room to improve on her score. She has one more National event left to attend and is trying to improve a first round loss, she also has two divisionals left to improve on, a second and third round loss. So you can definitely not count her out. There are a few that can possibly sneak into the top, but I feel like it will come down to these three. The long shot out in position number 21 right now is Jacob Pitt, a Texas native, already won the first National Event in Texas earlier this year, he is entered in the Fall Nationals and with just making first round he will be bumped up into the 15th spot. With every round he goes, he will improve his score, he is claiming full in the next national he goes to.

Jumping into Super Stock, we see a familiar name at the top in the #1 spot, Joe Santangelo. Super Stock is a little bit more wide open, #1-10 only separated by 99 points, with a lot of guys having chances to better their scores, with a bunch of big names sitting well. Sitting 22 points behind Joe is Kyle Rizzoli out of California, he has to surpass a second round in his two eligible National events, and then can better two third round losses on the divisional level. Rampy in Third is claimed out at 592 Points. Ricky Decker sitting in fourth place with 581 points has to better a third round loss on the National Level, he is entered St. Louis this weekend. Assuming on his location this will most likely be his last National if he does not better his third round loss being out of Indiana. It’s really wide open for the World Champion Title, if someone gets hot from 15 or below, watch out it could really shake up the standings.
