Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals Winners

Its been a long winter and its not over in many parts of the country, but Pomona is alive and well starting off NHRA’s Sportsman Championship season. Weather wise, you could not ask for a nicer week. Temps in the 70’s and no rain, it does not get any better, a great way to start the racing season off. Another great way to start the season off is having a heads up final in Stock. Chevy vs Ford, young gun versus veteran, you can’t write the script and better. And as always, the heavy hitters come to play at the opening race of the rear. I know this writer is looking forward to another great season.

Comp: Doug Lambeck vs Tibor Kadar

Kadar was the number 1 qualifier and looked to have the performance advantage over the number 7 qualifier Lambeck. Both drivers received a permanent CIC hit going into the final. It was all over at the starting as Kadar went red by .003. Lambeck gets his 15th NHRA national event win.

Super Stock: Justin Lamb vs Tod Haste

Lamb is .002 on the tree and .023 over his dial. Haste is .019 on the tree and .022 over his dial, when you do the math, its Justin Lamb for the win. Lamb brings home is 26th NHRA national event win.

Stock: Robert Pond vs Brian McClanahan

Pond and McClanahan in a AA/SA heads up final. Pond looked to have the performance advantage during qualifying. Pond is .063 on the tree, McClanahan is .033 on the tree. McClanahan steps up his game and out runs Pond by .074…. McClanahan runs a 9.721@136 to Ponds 9.795@134.46. McClanahan picks up his 3 NHRA national event win.

Super Comp: Parker Theobald vs Travis Theobald

How many brothers get to run each other at a national event, let alone a final. Both brothers driving very well throughout the rounds, but Travis gives it all a way going red by .008. Parker gets his 1st NHRA national event win in his first final.

Super Gas: Val Torres vs Greg Ventura

Venture takes on Torres in the Super gas final. Ventura has the tree… .013 to Torres’s .034. With .021 in the bank it looks as if Ventura will get the win, but he takes to much stripe and breaks out by .001, givING Torres the win. Torres gets his 7th NHRA national event win.

Super Street: Kevin Houmard vs Gary Ericksen

Ericksen just has the right number for this final. He is .023 on the tree and .024 over his index. Houmard is .042 on the tree but breaks out trying to catch Ericksen. Ericksen picks up his 3rd NHRA national event win.

Top Dragster: Chuck Phelps vs Paul Nero

This race is pretty much over at the start. Nero is .013 on the tree to Phelps .094. Giving up .083 on the tree usually ends you race, and this one ends with a Nero win, but cutting it a tad close to get the win, Nero took a lot of stripe and was .011 over his dial. Nero takes number 4 in NHRA national event wins.

Top Sportsman: Don Meziere vs Richard Okerman

Meriere and Orkerman are driving well, and they don’t disappoint in the final. Meziere is .012 on the tree and .025 over his dial. Okerman is just a little off with a .027 tree, but his runs closer to the dial with .012 over. When the dust settles, Meziere takes the win by .0027. Meziere gets his 4th NHRA national event win.
