Ron Infantino – The Family – The Dream – The Car

IMG_20140524_095917_745Ron Infantino started going to the races with his uncle, Joe Fasano. When Ron was 9, he traveled to at least one national event every year for about 7 years with his uncle. Ron traveled through out the country, from coast to coast. Sonoma, Atlanta and Bristol to name a few.

Ron is 47, and works for GE as a MRI Technical Specialist, but 12 years ago he decided his dream would come true. No more the spectator, he wanted to be a racer, a Stock Eliminator racer. He was warned by his uncle about the IMG_20140524_095811_830expense, but he was persistent and found the right car, a 1969 Camaro. The Camaro was originally owned by Billy Harper who sold it to Nick Minichetti. “We bought the car and trailer from Nick, and my racing career began” he explains.

The car came originally with a 350–255 hp combination, and later with a 350-300 hp combo. It has always run either E-F or G Stock Automatic. The Camaro was originally a powergilde, but Joe now runs a 3 speed metric 200. Transmission is done by Jack Sepanek. The engine is prepared by Steve Ficacci. In F Stock trim, Ron has gone a best of 10.87@119. In G Stock trim, he has been as fast as 10.85@118.

After 7 years with the white an orange paint job that Ron’s Camaro is known for, he decided to paint the car his favorite color “orange” Bob Gonier painted the Camaro in a cool color called Tanjello Orange. Prior to painting the Camaro, Ron had Kenny Richard, who also races in Stock do the interior. Kenny is known for his exceptional interior work. the seats, door panels, rugs and dash pad all received Kenny’s touch. Ron’s uncle talk him into getting new set of front wheels from Weld Racing to complete the new look.

Ron had a great 2013 season, with a number three finish in division one. He is also having a great season so far this year. With a national event win at Epping, NH a semi round finish at the Englishtown Nationals and 2 four round Divisional races.

There are many people that have helped Ron over the years, including his couch and mentor, Steve Calabro. Mike and Steve Ficcaci, Leon Miranian were also a big part of helping Ron out. Last but not least, Ron’s Uncle Joe Fasano, who introduced him to drag racing when he was 9. “Thanks uncle Joe, for keeping the torch burning.”
