Adkinson’s Hot Streak Continues with Super Stock Victory

Damascus, GA: Jeff Adkinson’s strong 2015 campaign added another chapter in early June when he drove his ‘05 Sunfire to the victory at the NHRA Lucas Oil Series event in Montgomery, Alabama. The win moved the Damascus, GA based peanut farmer into 2nd place in the NHRA Southeast Division Super Stock standings, where he trails leader Robbie Shaw by just 30 points. Adkinson has only participated in four divisional events thus far (to Shaw and many other leaders 5), so he is in excellent position to contend for the 2015 Southeast Division crown. Additionally, Adkinson is currently ranked nationally in both Super Stock, where he sits in sixth position, and Stock Eliminator, where he resides in the eighth national spot.

In Montgomery, Adkinson made his way through the field from the third qualifying position on the strength of a -.906 9.344 from his Jeff Taylor Performance powered GT/BA entry. After defeating longtime Division 2 standout Mike Crutchfield in round one, Adkinston advanced past Tresa Mitchell and Roy Hill to earn a bye run into the final round. There, he squared off former national event winner Nick Morris. Adkinson trailed on the starting line, .055 to .025, but got the nod in a double breakout decision, 9.379 (9.39 dial) to Morris’s 9.793 (9.81 dial).

“It feels great to hold the Wally trophy again,” said Adkinson, who drove to his sixth final round appearance of the season in Montgomery. “We’ve been knocking on the door, so it’s nice to finally have the final round fall our way. I’m really pleased with the new combination on this Sunfire, it’s a great car. And our Stocker has been running flawlessly as usual. I’m very excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.”

While Adkinson’s next several week will be consumed with farming, he does plan to attend an out-of-division event later in the summer; likely in either Columbus, OH or Madison, IL.
