K&N Filters Route 66 NHRA Nationals Winners
The K&N Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Chicago, Illinois marked the middle of the summer. Even with a temperature of 83 degrees and a humidity of 48%, the competition still proved as tough as ever. A few racers made their way to the winner’s circle for the first time in their careers while others added another Wally to their collection. Overall, it was an incredible group of sportsman racers during the Chicago Nationals!
Comp:
Bryan Hyerstay took home his first final round win against Todd Patterson in Comp Eliminator. Patterson was fairly late leaving the line, in turn, giving Hyerstay about one-tenth of an advantage. Hyerstay stayed ahead down the track and took the stripe for the win.
Super Stock:
Dan Fletcher took home his 98th final round win during the Super Stock final against Bryan Worner. Worner, with the slight starting line advantage (his .016 to Fletcher’s .021), broke out by seven-thousandths thus giving the win to Fletcher.
Stock:
Slate Cummings took the win against Ryan Herem in the Stock final. With a perfect light, Cummings already had the starting line advantage and was able to stay ahead of Herem until the finish line in order to take the stripe. Cummings has six wins that include four in Stock and two in Super Stock.
Super Comp:
Austin Williams lucked out and got the bye after his competitor, Holden Laris, got disqualified in the previous round. This marked Williams tenth final round win and his third win in Super Comp.
Super Gas:
Mia Tedesco claimed her second national event title against Gabriel Torres in the Super Gas final. Tedesco cut a .008 to Torres’s .059 and earned her second win.
Super Street:
Phil Unruh earned his fifth win in the Super Street final after he is matched up with Scott Mackie. Although Mackie had the slight starting line advantage, he took a bit too much stripe and broke out, giving the win to Unruh.
Top Sportsman:
Chad Pekrul went head to head with Sandy Wilkins and claimed his first national event win. Pekrul, with the advantage at the leave, managed to stay ahead of Wilkins down to the finish line in order to claim the win.
Top Dragster:
Joey Severance earned his 13th Wally against Megan Meyer in the Top Dragster final. Although they had almost identical reaction times (Severance with a .030 and Meyer with a .034), Severance was still able to keep ahead of Meyer with a great pass down the track.
