Default Re: been told too many things bout this combo...

The SVO was merely a more European (if you will) looking Mustang. They had 5 lug wheels, bigger brakes, different fascia, heavier sway bars, different steering wheel etc. I believe the engine was the same as the earlier turbo 4 cars. The 20th anniversary 84 GT350 I run was available from Ford with the turbo 4.
(mine was originally a CFI 5.0) My car has some of the same chassis componets as an SVO. I put a ball joint on it 2 months ago and asked for a ball joint for an 84 Mustang GT. It would not fit. I went back and asked for an SVO ball joint and wallah, it fit.

SVO's were not coupes, but that doesn't matter if you want to run it in SS/DX. As long as the engine corporate relationship is the same,it makes no difference. You could run a Mercury engine in it if you wanted. Doesn't matter the year or HP. SS/DX is classed by cu inch to weight. You could run that motor in an old Fiesta or a pinto if you wanted as long as the car's weight divided by cu inches was 15.00 or greater.

Hellraising racer, I think you need to go to some races and look through the pits at the way stockers/superstockers are built. They are by no means entry level classes. I wouldn't even call IHRA pure stock an entry level class. You would have easily have a couple thousand dollars in a T-5 transmission by the time you bought a rebuild kit, a shifter, straight cut gears, and good clutch set up.

You may even want to go to a Fun Ford Weekend to look at those various cars as well. Some meets have SVO clubs there meeting there as well.
