there are no differences in the block and such, the only difference is its in a SVO vs a non SVO.

I don't think it can be both an SVO and a coupe. All the SVO's were hatchs. Have you decoded the VIN?

The SVO was merely a more European (if you will) looking Mustang. They had 5 lug wheels, bigger brakes, different fascia, heavier sway bars, different steering wheel etc. I believe the engine was the same as the earlier turbo 4 cars. The 20th anniversary 84 GT350 I run was available from Ford with the turbo 4.
(mine was originally a CFI 5.0) My car has some of the same chassis componets as an SVO. I put a ball joint on it 2 months ago and asked for a ball joint for an 84 Mustang GT. It would not fit. I went back and asked for an SVO ball joint and wallah, it fit.

SVO's were not coupes, but that doesn't matter if you want to run it in SS/DX. As long as the engine corporate relationship is the same,it makes no difference. You could run a Mercury engine in it if you wanted. Doesn't matter the year or HP. SS/DX is classed by cu inch to weight. You could run that motor in an old Fiesta or a pinto if you wanted as long as the car's weight divided by cu inches was 15.00 or greater.

Hellraising racer, I think you need to go to some races and look through the pits at the way stockers/superstockers are built. They are by no means entry level classes. I wouldn't even call IHRA pure stock an entry level class. You would have easily have a couple thousand dollars in a T-5 transmission by the time you bought a rebuild kit, a shifter, straight cut gears, and good clutch set up.

You may even want to go to a Fun Ford Weekend to look at those various cars as well. Some meets have SVO clubs there meeting there as well.

I cant run it as a SVO because of the hatch notch problem, BUT i did do some digging and calling, 1979-83 coupes did come with a non intercooled turbo motor that i can run in stock class and super stock, i just have to change my front end and tail lights.

You can save yourself lots of money by buying Mark's car...you will go fast from the get go and it is turbocharged.

I suggest you build an 80 turbo mustang and race it in u-v/s or /sa. Your superstock idea is not a great one. I believe the record holder (in u-v stock) stated that he can run around 2 seconds under the index. Read the rule book a few more times and you'll understand the questions you have a little more.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am confused as to exactly what you want to build.
You are talking about so many different combinations that they have all run together.

Hey Chris1529, the SVO Mustang 84-86 has a built in lower ball joint from the factory. I know I've taken one apart and they are not replaceable. Going to have to machine it out and put in a repaceable one from a different vehicle.

I thought my ball joints were that way too according to the shop manual, but it pressed out.
I had to ask for an SVO ball joint at Advance Auto. It was about 3/16" larger than one for a regular GT.

FYI, the notchback 80 Mustang won't make V/Stock (A) Our friend would need a hatchback model for V
(specifically, a white one!)

He needs to make his an 83 and run P or Q/Stock. He could convert it to SS later ,if he hadn't spent enough money yet.
