You can change the front clip, taillights and dash and run the car as an older coupe that is in the classification guides as a turbo 4. Go to NHRA online and brows through the guides and pick a year.

Mustang used the same body from 79 to 94 so changing years is easy,

Then go to the engine specs to make sure you have the right part numbers.

Should be 79 to 93...94 and on, is a body change. However, he still has a problem since the car he currently has is a notchback. SVO's were hatchbacks.

He can run that engine in SS/DX. It says any engine. He will need a loaded Brinks Truck parked in the driveway to do it though.

If you take the turbo off (redo the engine). You can run SS/FS with the car.

Ford offered the turbo in non SVO mustangs, look in the class guides.

I'm probably wrong but I don't think there is any difference. You just need the right part numbers for the year claimed.
