My reference to "install a 6.00 gear in it..." was (and I'm assuming) is that this bracket car with a monster sized engine (relative to S/SS engines) has the luxury of having a mid 4 rear gear, probably 4.56. Like I said, that's a wild azzed guess. Keeping the car in gear until your back in the pits with such a gear is one thing, putting a gear that makes your legal S/SS go as fast as possible and then coasting down after the finish line MIGHT put a new perspective on things.
And prior to class rules allowance of aftermarket rods, a smart racer did everything possible to keep the big end of the rod round, not elliptical. Now of course top quality rods are allowable and it isn't as much of an issue. When I ran Stock, my front pump / rear sump AMC, I'd be willing to bet there wan't a half-dozen Stockers with as much science in the oil pan as mine and eventually an almost completely reconfigured oiling system in the block itself. The engine consisted of a liberal amount of coatings and frictional loss measurements. Still, when hitting the brakes at upwards of 125 MPH, pressure dropped to zero and attempts to feather the pressure back up with braking and throttle were futile. So to keep the engine together longer, it was best to just click it off. So when a bracket racer and S/SS groupie comes on here with statements such as offered by 1320, my response is no, he doesn't know about all engines and the problems that are adherent to the manufacture of the original OEM product. The simple way to prove me wrong is to build an AMC (not a generic chevrolet) that is legal & runs 10.50's @ 125 and "show me " how it is done by an expert. If you can pull that off without an accusump, I'll pay attention. Super Stock, on the other hand, is much more forgiving with the allowance of aftermarket oil pans and in some cases, external pick-ups (like a Hemi).
