Engine Shut Down

If your racer is properly set up to "kill" the engine @ the stripe, what reason would you have to leave it run? My junk is over 10K @ the stripe letting it decelerate in gear would seem to load the rods, pistons and crank for no reason. I know quite a few racers who shut their glide equipped cars off @ over 140 MPH with no ill effects. My point , if you can shut it off do it you're doing your engine a big favor. Joe
