We are trying to get a car set up this year and having a lot of difficulty with traction. 69 Camaro, 427, Jerico. Working with Calvert to ensure that was all correct and they said the tires are shot (20 runs) and to get a stiffer sidewall and harder compound. Tires are Hoosier 29x9 D06
I don't see any stiff sidewall tires in 9 inch on the Hoosier site. Mickey Thompson has a 29.5x9 (3056ST) which says it is recommended for manual transmissions. The MT site also calls out a different stiff sidewall tire for cars over 3,000 lbs (3360), but do not have it in a 9" tire. What are others running for tires with a stick? |

Best tire I've found for best traction and longevity is the Hoosier 18200 30x9 D07. Usually get 80-100 runs before they go away. I've run the M/T tire and as far as I'm concerned they're not a good tire as I could never get more than 25 runs on then. Clutch settings and shock settings are also a factor plus tire pressure and launch RPM. A racepak can't hurt as well.

What clutch are you running and what shocks? Everything has to work together. If you are hammering the tire with the clutch there is no tire that can overcome that unless conditions are perfect.

We have been from 380-800 lbs on base and 9.7/11.8/13.2 on the levers as we have tried to work through. From 3800-5000 on launch RPM. Front shocks on the loose end of rebound and the rear on the stiff end. Various combinations of the above. |

I have tried many, but Mickey Thompson has a 29.5x9 (3056ST) works for my 302, 5-speed.
