I've been tinkering with one of these. Completely stock except for a cold thermostat, short, sticky DOT tires and blue sunoco it's gone 14.50s at "The Beav". Probably go 14 teens at Cecil. So far, it's been pretty consistent too. I don't know what it weighs but it's probably somewhere between A and B weight.
A couple of years ago, I watched some "kid" drive one in at "The Beav", took out his drivers-side headlight assy., put sticky DOTs on it and plugged his laptop into it. 12.70s! Blew me away! He told me that he changed the drive chain and gears, put in a converter out of a 3.4 Monte Carlo and stock LT-1 injectors. I don't know how he reprogrammed it but he DID say that he didn't mess with the boost because he "has to drive it home".
Needless to say, I was impressed.

Yes I did Dan.

I remember years ago when I still followed the Buick guys and read up on the supercharged Buick 3.8 V-6 ( as installed in the GTP and GS as the 3800 )

It looked to have good potential.

I agree with the going slow part (hard to enjoy). I have an 11.40ish stick street car that is a blast at the track.
I could only afford a dime rocket, but would a Barracuda qualify as a dime rocket? E body Mopars are crazy these days, even a big bumper, smogged, slant or 318.

That combo is great! There are a lot of rocket combos left but this one will be looking good doing it on top.

How come the 70-71 318 has 185 hp and the 73 has 169 hp? Specifications are basically the same.

Cool Re: The best "Dime Rocket" combos!

So as I read this in the classification guide, a '73 'cuda 318-2v falls in as an R,T,U combo ? If so, yes Rocket Ship and Possible #1 Indy Qualifier. But definitely not a dime Rocket. Good luck finding one too !

So imagine NHRA dropping all 318 2bbl combos to a reasonable hp across the board for more readily available/cheaper body styles like a later duster/dart or volare/aspen..they afraid of a little competition for the mustangs and mavericks?? Sounds like more competition $$ at the gate..common sense once again eludes them!
