This does not have to be a "perfect storm" to happen. If that was the case, then there are alot of perfect storms happening every year. Potential high 8 second cars have no business running with 16 second cars where the closure rate is 60 MPH or more. This ain't about hating on Mustangs-it is about what is safe. Thanks again for opinion, whatever your name is.
You are right Steve, those 16 second cars should even be allowed on the track at all.

I didn't say that or even insinuate that.

Talking Re: 9.339 @ 143.03 !!!!

The fast car/slow car debate has raged for many, many years.

I myself have been the slow car in a bracket race with a 100 mph closing speed by my opponent. When you're in the slow car you don't even think about it.

One thing you guys never take into account is that both cars are moving in the same direction and it is not a true "dead" hit.

Is it dangerous? Yes. Is it as bad as you think? No.

Your options would be:

1. Separate eliminators for the slow cars.
2. Policing the finish line for guys too hard on the brakes. Pop a few of them and you will see it diminish.

While you're at it, no more dragsters against door cars at the brackets.
And since it sounds like you may be unfamiliar with comp, guys are on the brakes on the top end on a regular basis, and there are closing rates in excess of 60 mph. So I guess that needs to end for safety as well.
I give up Johnny Shot. You missed the point entirely. As for no experience in Comp racing, that is wrong. I have been helping various racers in Comp for over 30 years. Been helping the same team for the last sixteen years. Comp has no relevance to the point I was trying to make. The Comp cars are much safer than a lower classed Stocker with little safety gear. To all that think that I am against slower stockers-That is not the case, I currently have a car that is legal to run T, R and U with one engine combo and K,L and M with the other. Sorry if I offended anyone, that was not my intention. The Mustangs are impressive with what they have done to this point. How much are they opening the throttle? 65%? A little more? I know for certain that late last year a fellow stock driver with a new Mustang, who I am close with, told me the % that he was opening the throttle. He told me that he knew that a few others were using the same % at that time. If he ran 9.70's at 50ish% throttle in A, then how fast do you think he can run in AA at 90ish%? In the 8's at over 150 as I am told. Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Signed with my real name,

Steve Williams

P.S. I choose not to post under a fictitious name as I stand behind what I rant about.

My guess is that if the NHRA thought it was unsafe to have that much difference in speeds it would not be the fast car that they would get rid of. Not saying they should or that it is right. Just betting with the way they think that is what would happen.

When I said that these cars could run in the 8's fairly easily, most everybody looked at me with the stink eye. How much are they opening the throttle to achieve 9.30's? 65%?
I've been in this situation many times, as much as 90mph difference, me being the slow car. I'm perfectly fine with it, and it does not make me uncomfortable.

I'd be a hell of a lot more nervous being the dragster going 185 and driving up under my street car going 95......

This is exactly the point I have been making all along, and that Chris (Drooze) often made to dead ears. Everybody wanted to dump on the Dodge Challenger, but we have never been the real threat. We just got some out there earlier and more visibly...

It is the supercharge mustangs that you guys really need to watch our for. All they have to do is turn the screw a little and faster they they go.

We actually have to do things that make our car faster. Dodge Challengers (especially the 5.7 and 6.1) are last great pushrod naturally aspired engines.

It is absolutely ludicrous that NHRA allows blown engines to play in the same sandbox as naturally aspirated. But the NHRA doesn't care a bit about stock, and the Ford Motor Company greases their palms, so anything goes.

So, leave the challenger alone, and beat up on the real enemy if you feel like beating up on somebody..

Even the V10's are only one class, but you get Fords running up your tailpipe in a whole host of classes. Are you happy now?

And, BTW, congrats to Drew and encouragement to Rock. It isn't their fault that the NHRA doesn't understand what is fair, and what isn't.
