I was standing next to the mustang on that run.
I was thinking after the pass a ss/ba car would be happy with a pass like that. LOL

Just imagine what would happen if that car locked up the brakes in the lights, turned hard and struck a lower class car that is not required to have much safety equipment. 145 MPH car hitting an 85 MPH car in the door. Food for thought. Time to move these rocket ships into Super Stock, if for no other reason than safety. When I said that these cars could run in the 8's fairly easily, most everybody looked at me with the stink eye. How much are they opening the throttle to achieve 9.30's? 65%?

Was that 143 on the brakes? There is a few more MPH in those cars if they are hanging parachutes on them now.
Maybe they'll make a 6lb AAA/ class so a 427 Cobra car run. |

You are misinformed. 145 MPH into your door and you will die. 85 MPH against the wall or rollover stands a much greater chance to walk away. The evil of breakout racing is that this scenario plays itself out several times a year at drag strips across the United States. I have some qualification to speak on such matters, as I made a living reconstructing such accidents. Johnny Shot, whoever you may be, if you want to call me out as being unqualified or think that I am talking out of my rear end then atleast use your real name. The greater the difference in speed of the two vehicles, the greater the chance for an accident. This is fact. A good deal of lower classed cars only use a rollbar. Some of the lower classed cars use nothing. This type of accident has happen at LODRS events in the past and given the right circumstances, it will only be a matter of time before it happens at a national event. For the record, I am not a hater of the Mustangs or Dragpak Mopars. Faster closure rates aren't always a good thing. Especially a 60 MPH closure rate.

Let's not forget that Don Fezell, in his '08 CJ, set the AA/S record at 9.37 last year, and has run 147+ MPH on at least 2 occasions. I personally saw him run 147+ in Q1 at the Englishtown National event last June in conditions that were nowhere near as good as Gainesville this weekend. I don't want to diminish what Drew Skillman did; but Don Fezell was doing it a year ago.

Steve, You make a good point, but just because a car is not required to have safety gear doesn't mean the owner/driver shouldn't install it and use it properly. Ultimately, if you want to be safe you have to protect yourself. Is there really much difference at 140 than 133 with a fast "A" car? Either wreck would be very bad. If a racer is concerned then he should have every piece of equipment no matter how slow the car is.
