I have some qualification to speak on such matters, as I made a living reconstructing such accidents. Johnny Shot, whoever you may be, if you want to call me out as being unqualified or think that I am talking out of my rear end then atleast use your real name. The greater the difference in speed of the two vehicles, the greater the chance for an accident. This is fact. A good deal of lower classed cars only use a rollbar. Some of the lower classed cars use nothing. This type of accident has happen at LODRS events in the past and given the right circumstances, it will only be a matter of time before it happens at a national event. For the record, I am not a hater of the Mustangs or Dragpak Mopars. Faster closure rates aren't always a good thing. Especially a 60 MPH closure rate.
Nowhere in my post am I misinformed, as I formed my own opinion. To be misinformed would mean that I was informed with incorrect information from someone else which is not the case.
Nowhere in my post did I call you out, nor question your qualifications, nor suggest you were talking out your butt.
In my opinion, you are incorrect about getting hit at 145 mile per hour car in the door. The slow car would have to be stopped, which it is not, it would have to be sideways, which it is not. And on the odd chance that this perfect storm of yours is played out, my guess is the outcome would be bad even if the stopped driver were strapped into a Pro Stocker. I'm no physics expert, but it is impossible for a car going 145 mph to make an instant 90 degree turn and hit the target at that same speed. Should A Dragsters, Pro-Mods and all the 5 and 6 second comp cars be thrown out of comp because there are slow G Super Mods? HUGE closing speeds, same finish line games, same risk.
All this is pointless. Your safety angle (closing rate) has been used, unsuccessfully in every handicap class from brackets on up to comp.
Lastly, as mentioned any driver that feels unsafe may upgrade their safety equipment beyond the minimum standards.
There are plenty of valid reasons to re-classify these cars, closing rate is not one of them.

Johnny Shot-The faster car is usually the one who crosses the track and T-Bones the slower one. This is Stockers. Not Pro Mod/Stock or Comp. You have obviously never seen this happen or heard of this happening. In BREAKOUT racing, people get on the brakes and this is usually what starts the sequence of events in motion. This does not have to be a "perfect storm" to happen. If that was the case, then there are alot of perfect storms happening every year. Potential high 8 second cars have no business running with 16 second cars where the closure rate is 60 MPH or more. This ain't about hating on Mustangs-it is about what is safe. Thanks again for opinion, whatever your name is.

Just out of curiosity, while we are on the subject of 9-second cars, does anybody know what the fastest pass by a "conventional" car is in A. Not talking about altitude either.

Mike, Pond has been .60s, at 138. I do believe that's the quickest and fastest an "A" car has been.

Following your logic, we have to end all the Super Stock/Stock Combo races. Steve Williams has declared it unsafe.
While you're at it, no more dragsters against door cars at the brackets.
And since it sounds like you may be unfamiliar with comp, guys are on the brakes on the top end on a regular basis, and there are closing rates in excess of 60 mph. So I guess that needs to end for safety as well.

You could always ban the slow cars if Steve feels it unsafe.

Now there's a good idea! Ban the REAL cars.
