Default Hot Rod class question

I'm not an IHRA member but I'm thinking about running HR at Capitol and/or MIR this year. What will it cost for a newbie to run? Do I need something more than a membership, license and HR number? How tough is the tech inspection?

Hello and welcome to the fun.
You will need to become a IHRA member, and get a HR #. If your car runs faster then 135MPH you will need a Lic, no physical required. Tech is pretty standard.

Come on and play.

Ron welcome, as Cal said member ship & H/R number. The 135 mph thing is NHRA I believe. Min weight 2600lbs. All your safety stuff needs to be up to date helmet 2010 snell number min. Depending on how fast your car is you may need a throttle stop and a delay box if you run a trans brake. Your car will need sfi harmonic balancer, sfi flex plate & shield, and a sfi trans shield. But all these you should already have if you run 10.90 or quicker hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I'm good on all the safety stuff except for the flex plate shield. I didn't know it was a requirement in Hot Rod. The dates on the trans shield, balancer, and flexplate have passed. Do they check those dates?

I have a diaper and the helmet is 2010. The window net doesn't have any sfi label cause it's from 1981. I guess it's time to update that. The rule book says a competition license is required in Hot Rod.

If it's a ribbon net you're fine no sfi needed if it's the Mesh style it has to have a date they changed that rule a few years back and what they mean by license is basically paying for your competition number
