Why dont we just get rid of the runner volume rule? It is a good idea gone Bogus bad!

I just received an Email from Bruce 5 minutes ago and there is going to be a CC max for stock!!! He said the new policy will be on the website today! I guess we all need to start hunting for the "good" castings. Merry Christmas engine builders.

I'm confused, but I thought that is what all of this is about.Currently, there are cylinder heads being used in Stock Eliminator that aren't even legal in Super Stock Eliminator. That is how I understand this.

You are 100% correct. There are a lot of heads out there with volumes bigger that what's allowed in SS where its legal to do port and polish, raise and lower ports use epoxy and so on. Yet, NHRA has allowed player in stock to get away with larger volumes. How can this be done if acid porting is not allowed. If they put the correct limits to runner volumes you're going to see a bunch of people slow down.

We go through this stuff all the time. Anyone remember the piston deal? Lots of folks were talking about all the racers who were going to slow down. You know what, the fast guys are still fast. This head runner volume thing is way over blown too. Sure some racers are out there with oversized runners but I'll bet there are not as many as some of you think!

There is a problem some of the small block Mopar SS volumes are incorrect with the valves we can now run. I've checked many untouched small block mopar heads this year and very few have four runners that will meet the ss volumes (only one out of twenty heads for the 915's I checked had four runners that were less than the ss volume of 158.). The 587 head is the only exception,it has the same port but there is 4 cc's difference in the super stock spec.
I was told at the pri show the stock volumes were decided on Thursday evening and would be on the NHRA site Friday or Monday. Thanks |
