Mark,
For ten years or more nhra has used the term class winners bump-in to fill the field. As you know, they like to call the shots around here. Like old Dylan said "the times ... they are a chang'n"

They have also used the term "NHRA-accepted aftermarket" when speaking of way too many parts in Stock and S/S. Thats what put us in the fix we are today. Of course a few on here that have agendas would probably want to do a poll on that subject too. |

This latest abandoning of tradition simply takes some more gloss off of a class win.
It wouldn't be surprising in the least to see the contingency money for a class win go the way Comp Eliminator qualifying money went this year. Apparently the "change artists" won't be satisfied until they have a 128 car qualified bracket race with nary a heads up race! |

Lynn, Of course ,I knew what you meant. But , how a question is phrased in a poll ,sometimes contributes to the outcome that the poll-er wants. We know this from politics, right boys?

However, I have been around Indy and the US Nationals & the Indy 500 my whole life. I think you are trying establish a meaning to a personal objection which is fine, but real stretch of the imagination and political spin on your part. I think the term is valid as we all use it and know what it means. I absolutely hate poll spin, and I think your point is reverse spin, not spin on my part.

The evolution of S/S&Stock Eliminator class winners only, class winners plus low qualifiers 64 car field, class winners plus low qualifiers 96 car field and until recently class winners plus low qualifiers 128 car field. If the term "bump in " is used incorrectly this does not mean it should be accepted. Seems we have to many "Indy Rules", one of twenty four on the circuit.

There are lots of terms you can find things wrong with the literal meanings. This is the reason italics are used around the words with questionable meanings. Most of us use generally accepted words, and "bump" accurate or not in this town is the accepted terminology in my opinion. Not that I agree with all the literal definitions. Otherwise I would have left the italics off the term. For the Bill O'Reilly fans it a colloquialism.
![]() ![]() Other Indiana technical terms are doofus, bitchin, bonehead, taint, and my favorite: cattywompus. ![]()

What? Does any of what you posted really make sense to you? What does whether or not Eric has won Indy or not have to do with anything? And the one that amazes me the most of anything posted over the last week, who are we? WE are the guys who pay the bills at NHRA! WE are the ones who keep the lights on in Glendora! WE are the racers! Without racers there is no need for NHRA to exist! Exactly how much does NHRA pay you anyway? Jim Now go ahead and ban me for NOT agreeing with you Mr. Moderator

Jim, Thanks for your hard work trying to get the straight story on the new 128 rule. I think everyone appreciates you getting responses from the SRAC. Seems it is based on circumstances which will not be changed. Thanks again.
