The only thing adding roller cams to all cars in stock is give an advantage to racers that can afford another probably at least $2,000 in a roller cam, lifters, and valve springs to match. And don’t be tempted to buy cheap roller lifers. They can cause similar catastrophic events as a schubeck that experienced valve float one too many times.
I have no skin in the game either. I race a super stock car so I already have a roller valve train. I think the reason some are asking to get the roller cam and lifters approved for the older flat tappet engines is that probably half of the stock eliminator cars now have roller cam and lifters. Some of the new stuff even has CNC ported heads. The cat is out of the bag so let the guys with the older classic muscle cars step up into this century and even things out a bit. Just my observation.
Maybe make it like the aftermarket heads with a small HP penalty to run the roller stuff

Or, they could just build a newer car that actually came with roller lifters....

Again , I ask..Let's keep this thread on track.
There are several threads on this subject, or start a new one.
Thanks

the future of stock and super stock will be ultimately be in the hands of us. we may not be part of the NHRA any more.

If the problem is high HP cars on 9in tires in stock. How about making stock eliminator a class where only cars from the factory that can be registered, licensed and legal for street driving be eligible for the class. 1000HP factory built racecars deserve their own class where they can race on a tire that's safe for them.

Is it a weight issue combined with big hp and the small tires that damages the track surface?
I’m building a stocker and haven’t experienced the 9” tires yet. I had a super street car on 11.5 tires and a super gas car on 14.5 tires and neither seemed to cause any problems with the track.
Maybe let the higher hp cars run a little wider tire. Maybe 11.5” ( if they fit ) the factory show room cars and then progressively smaller back down to the current 9” tire.
I don’t know if it would help but it should be a little safer.

The way we argue on whats right or wrong for the class, we would be doomed. There have been 15+ recommendations just on this thread alone.

Well, it looks like the one thing we can all agree on is that we don't all agree. We all have personal agendas and if yours doesn't fit mine then your idea sucks. Mark to me it looks like most race cars not just Stock and Super Stockers with the high HP numbers and how hard they hit the tires make bald spots. Tracks with good starting line crews seem to be able to make it work. The problem is having them take the time during the day to keep after it. Seems a lot of times by the end of a long weekend on Sundays they want to get the race done even if they have to give less than an adequate starting line. I was at Coastal Plains Dragway a couple of weekends ago. That has to be one of the ugliest starting lines I have seen in years. They had the Carolina Class Racers ***. race there. I walked that ugly starting line before the race started. To my surprise it was sticky and ready to hook almost all the class cars that went down it. My point is if a track that's starting line is in that bad of shape can get prepped well enough to hook class cars no excuses from other tracks that can't. BP
