Well, I'm going to add my two cents worth to this and then shut up for awhile.
What the horsepower committee is not taking into account is all the new "enhancements" that have been allowed the last few years plus all the new radial tires, very expensive 'trick' lightweight transmission, etc, etc, etc, etc. Plus there needs to be someone at the races to keep up with how 'good' the air is in certain sessions of time trials, runs, etc.,and allow for air that is very good. Take Fred's run at No Problem Raceway last year. The air was -1000 ft.plus on many different guages. Anybody in their right mind ought to know you don't allow a run under those circumstances to count for anything. That is at least 2 tenths faster than any air most people will ever see under normal conditions. The problem in a nut shell is things have developed thru the years that haven't been taken into consideration that make cars go faster. That is the first thing that needs to be addressed then cull out the acid ported heads, etc. and class racing will be back where it ought to be. |
