Mr. GUMP, you need to calm down and take a deep breath. I wasn’t there. A very REPUTABLE seasoned racer told me this little tidbit. It was a 305 car, NO CRANK TRIGGER allowed. This is how CHEATERS are dealt with in D3.....A certain BLUE duster raised the suspicions of numerous racers , 60 foot times just didn’t add up....a small group of GOOD OLE BOYS raised the money and filed an official PROTEST at a points meet...The duster loaded up, refused to tear down and hasn’t been seen since.....NUMEROUS racers on this site have very bad memories. Not too many years ago, light pistons with ring lands moved up was the rage in stock Eliminator. A few oil pans coming off at INDY and a piston/rod assembly minimum weight cured a lot of this. When you have VERY FEW or hardly any tear downs, this is what happens...

Dude, I'm not even a little worked up over this. In regards to all the history you just shared, you are preaching to the choir. I've been around this stuff a while.......

I just had an engine built with CP pistons and they would not change ANYTHING. Minimum compression height was 1.71,so that is what it is. If somebody is torn down and found to be illegal, is the piston manufacturer or competitor illegal? |

Just because someone told you that doesn't mean it's true. I ordered a set of pistons from CP waited six weeks opened the box and they had forgotten to laser etch the part number on the top of the pistons. I called them and they said send them back as they wouldn't pass tech with out the part number. They took care of the shipping both ways and yes they're legal.

If SS/S go away, NHRA will have less to deal with in general and on race day. A reason for steady growth in .90 racing? Whoever thought that there would be so many cars with so many variations? Other than the specific class racers, who really cares if SS/S show up on race day, right? When it comes to SS/S racing its the racers themselves that make up the class, NOT SOME SANCTIONING BODY! Time for a complete overhaul of SS/S. NHRA is waiting for the end of these classes or the sport itself. They are all ve$ted and not in this sport. There have been sanctioning bodies in the past and local attempts to keep the classes alive. CHANGE IS GOOD! ITS TIME IS NOW!

I do not know if this was the situation, nevertheless I have personally seen a CP piston on an engine I took apart that had the approved part number, however, it had thin rings and the ring lands had been moved higher. And no, in consideration of the car owner, who purchased the car from another racer with this engine and was extremely mad when I showed him, I will not post the pictures of the piston. However, a few members of this site have seen the pictures of the illegal piston and not surprised when I mentioned the name of the person that built the engine. The matter was addressed with Snake Calvert at CP and he is investigating the matter internally to see if the pistons were shipped this way or if they were laser etched by someone else. By the way, the engine was reassembled with legal pistons. As a well known and respected engine builder shared with me, he was told by NHRA that he is one of the few engine builders that his pistons meet the spec. |
