They A) Do not exist, unless the IHRA has starting running Stock again,
and B) A good Crate Motor car would cost the same as as a good NHRA
Stocker, and C) A good Pure Stock Car (If the Class Existed) wouldn't be far behind in cost.
Once you had built one of these cars you dream about, getting to the races,
trailers, gas, is all going to be close to same.
Nancy Pelosi wanted to run Pure Stock, it didn't work out well for her.

BUT, after reading about how many of you guys gripe & complain when another car in your class gets any help from NHRA, it appears to me that the easiest solution, & what would be MOST fair for all racers, in any particular class, is to do away with heads-up runs, during eliminations.

For those with the quickest cars in a class, there could still be class run-offs at some races, for the classes which had enuff guys who wanted to run for a class win.

It has to be so disappointing, for a guy who has already spent more than he should have, just to get his car safely under his index, only to spend all the money to get to & enter a race, then get put out in a early round, by a same class car, that is quicker than him. It's great for the quicker car. He basically gets a bye & a free time trial. Don't even have to try for a real good light.

I know some will say this makes it more like bracket racing, and they've already done that. But heads-up racing favors the guys who have more money to spend. And these guys will always gripe when some NHRA action reduces their chance of an easy heads-up win.

So, as mentioned, if you guys REALLY want more Stock entries, doing away with heads-up runs during elims, MIGHT be one way to get some new entries. Brent Flynn always come to my mind. He was running bracket, but built a low budget stocker engine & ran it some. But at the larger div races he wouldn't have much of a chance in a heads-up run, since there are usually some quick cars in C/SA thru F/SA. But, IF there were no heads-up races during elims, Brent would have a good shot at a win, even if he had a round against a same class car.

I suppose this might be a deal where the "haves" are on one side & the "have nots" are on the other.

Again, I have no dog in the hunt. But, I'm interested in this discussion, among you guys who do.
Then what is the point of Stock Eliminator? You are asking for a Bracket Race with cars that need to be built to specific rules, but for what reason?

Are there to be a few races a year where there WILL be heads-up runs?

Plenty of people race Stock Eliminator for the challenge of building a legal car and trying to make it run quicker than others in the same class. Others just want to be part of the "show" at a National Event, Bracket Racers can't participate at those events, usually.............

Question Re: Just talkin' here #5

[QUOTE=Billy Nees;
The combos that I would like them to focus on are the combos that just got arbitrarily handed a bad factor 20-30-40 years ago and got forgotten about.
There has to be some kind of a happy medium that NHRA can come up with to get some "affordable" combos the help that they need without the full-blown "welfare" give mes.
As it stands, there's no rationale for a Racer to build a decent, affordable but not very competitive car and have to race it for 10 years getting 2-3 HP back a year.[/QUOTE]

Agree, and how about a couple of newer street cars (traditional stockers w /17 digit vins) as bad factor examples which need to be corrected also... the '10 Camaro, and the 11-14 Mustangs, (seen any lately? ) while the street 09 up Challengers and '15 LS3's are out there racing and getting AHFS HP ?

I say f*** you to getting rid of heads up runs. Ok,so Brent and anyone else for that matter has worked hard on his stuff and it hasn't really gone any faster, so we should change the rules? I say no,maybe he needs to step up his game. My car was a slug when I started out and I kept plugging away at it, that's what Stock and Super Stock are all about. Like Billy said stop pounding away on the key board and build a car get out there and have some fun! Besides the faster car doesn't always win a heads up race.

Mike Warren still races a '69 Camaro with a straight six. Mike is a regular at GLSSA association races.
