Okay, you've got the car and want to race it. Better than sitting behind a keyboard all the time. I know that story.
Anyway, so what are your plans for this thing? Where will you test it at a reasonable altitude? Kearney is 300 miles, right?
How about the clutch? Trans and shifter? Rear end?
The reason I ask is because Stick shift / Dime rocket doesn't necessarily go together. You know , like jumbo shrimp? Rap music?

Kearney is in the 350 range, Great Bend I believe is a bit farther, bandimere is around 65-70 miles and an altitude track (but you guys know that) the rest needs to be determined but it won't be a high-dollar setup....retirement doesn't pay all THAT well...

I DO have a 3.73 TG out of a 78 amx and a 3.44 1st st-10 that could be put into use...I don't know what the rev capabilities are on a 199 (that'll put it in V/S or V/SA( if I wanted to run Lane Weber)...232/258? I don't know either...shifter? i'm using a hurst supershifter (street one, not the reverse lockout type)..

What started out as a dime rocket but no longer is, back in 2015, I undertook building an '81 Camaro for U/SA with the 267-2V combo. Finally made it to the track last March and have managed to shave off .52 seconds off my ET after only 32 passes. Had loads of fun this year back racing with the CCRA after a 3 year hiatus. Special Kudos for the help from Doug Hobgood, Doug Smith and Mike Moller. Also for Billy's advice in making this combo work. All of his coaching has paid big dividends. This winter a metric 200 goes in the car after using my trusty Turbo 350 this past season from my Monza. Looking forward to some better results in '19.

Tom, find an old Comet or Maverick, much easier way to go.
77 / 79 AMC 258 with a 2 barrel, 150 HP
Some of the 70,s 302 2 barrel Fords are as low as 137 HP last time I checked.
I was fortunate, my car is heavy enough to hide in V.

The Thermoquad is a great carb if you take the time to
understand it!
What car?

1978 Dodge Aspen Wagon....318/150/230HP
Runs N / O / P
Former O/SA National Record for a few years
and around 20 National Class Wins including Indy.

You can run Sedan in L / M / N.....Same Combination
My friend Angelo Phillips held M/SA National Record
for quite a while and is still very fast when he can find the
time to race

There are several around the country......They are all very
competitive in Class.

Pretty Affordable Cars to run Quick if you can stand
how they Look.
