No not really they may have been loctited in place at one time.

Only way to check alignment is to run a line hone through the mains as that don't lie.

Biggest problem I see wit old 454 block is worn out lifter and guys try to put roller lifters in worn out bores it does not take much time to ruin a set of lifters. Other problem is the lifter bores are to short . I bush them and in most cases go to .904 and leave the bushing appox. .250 higher then the casting.
