The way the rule is written, if you hit the wall or timing lights, you are dq'd. You are dq'd anyway regardless of braking, right?

In 2007, at the Winter Nationals, R2, SC, I was fortunate that the guy (Guy Agauyo) in the right lane got on the brakes (he won that round) but crashed a borrowed race car, just behind me. In reality, if this decision will make at least one person dial their car more honestly and not have to be so hard on the brakes as to lose control, then all is good. We all like to think we are under control while braking at 125-185 mph. More likely, we are just lucky.

Last time I will comment I promise, I don't want sound stupid but if this is a DQ hundreds should of been gone before him!
I agree if you got a maniac out there dragging brakes and sticking his nose in the stripe he should be out! I run 112 mph against cars as fast as 150 so far and I grab the brake on almost every run. I use my throttle alot too, but I shouldn't have to go to the next race of fear of being tossed if this is what they are ruling excessive. I don't see anything wrong with what he did at all and it might be time for some y'all to hit the Rec softball league.

Figured I might as well comment on this issue. Seems like everyone else already has.
First of all, I've known the Emmons boys and Big Harv for a long time..They are the best at what they do. Now., from what I heard (I was not there), Jerry was warned about this after a previous round. It stands to reason they'd be watching him closer from there on out. I watched the video here 20 times too, and did not see any tire smoke. Beyond that, did Mr. Emmons momentarily lock up or drag a wheel or two? I don't believe you'd be able to see it in a grainy video. Mr. Emmons knows the answer. NHRA ? Not so sure , but they must have thought they did. This would have been enough for a disqualification, in their minds. As I said, I wasn't down by the finish line there, and neither were most of you. I don't feel it would be my place to speculate any more than that.

Seems like this may be 2017's tech debacle, like the fake battery crack down the last couple years. I think its a BS call but at the same time its obvious he's killing a bunch, more than anyone really should.

This happens every weekend at every track across the country and it looks just like that. It's called bracket racing and that is the poster picture of any class with shoe polish on the window.. Hats off to Mr Emmons.............nice stripe work!! He was driving to win the event got screwed. This is the norm at any dial in class every weekend. What a shame, someone in Glendora must really have a hard on for him. Wonder who is next on the hit list??

My question is what is the rule book on it?
Does anyone have a video from the rear end of the car? Its like a comp guy said I'm tired of going 175mph and slamming on the breaks. Guys its not smart racing at all, and did everyone notice that they weren't slamming the breaks at all after that DNQ..... Remember its NHRA game and rules.... Just my two cents. ![]() |

This is the rule that is posted in the 2017 NHRA Rulebook:
Section 2, Page 8 Disqualifications: Anytime it has been judged that excessive braking has resulted in loss of control that results in contact with the guardwall and/or light fixtures or crossing the center boundary lines, INCLUDING PAST THE FINISH LINE, the contestant will be disqualified. Its a judgment call to the starter as to what is excessive braking. |
