You are lucky you weren't DQ'd from the event altogether. I've seen it happen.
In Chicago, I had a very similar situation. I barely missed my first S/ST run, and was teched for S/C while the class was running. They had also moved the location of tech between those classes, so I needed to chase that down. In both cases, there was a lady in the back of the credentialing trailer that was running an 'express lane' for racers in this situation. That was helpful but still a major hassle overall. At the end of it all, I still needed to wait in the long credential line to get my wife's restricted area pass.
