My belief is that the "Flat Out" no AHFS US Nationals that is being offered by NHRA is "not designed to fool competitors" in to showing their hand in order to gather the necessary information that they feel they need to level the playing field once and for all.
In my opinion if that was NHRA's motive they could have secretly used the ammunition gathered over past National Open events where most competitors raced with no fear what so ever of the AHFS and It could have been corrected long ago. Seems to me there is not much chance they haven't been over the results from those events with a fine tooth comb and Nitro's stats lay all the cards right on the table for all to see. My believe is that NHRA is reacting to the many complaints from racers who are totally unhappy with the fact that the Factory Shootout cars are being allowed "special privileges" by being exempt from the AHFS and therefore dominating the top half of the qualifying sheet. Just my .02
