I started racing on the track in 1961. Street raced before that. We raced here in Tulsa at The North Airport, which was all private planes. Had to stop the races to let planes take off and land. Had a 1956 Chevy, 205 hp 4bl, 3 speed overdrive. (The overdrive cars came with 4.11 rear gears). Local guy that raced a 1953 Studebaker and let me hang around to learn from him. He helped me freshen it up, and coached me with car set up. Ended up holding the track class record at 15.02 @ 92 MPH. Not a whole lot of SBC stockers running over 90 MPH around here at that time. I was hooked.
