Silly Season is here question

Hello All
Silly season is here so lets have a little fun.
3 part question
1st how did you start racing?
2nd why do you race?
3rd How long have you been racing, and how long do you plan to keep racing?

OK so maybe it 4 part question, but the kind of blend together.

Started in Street Legal at my home track (Quaker City Motorsports Park) in Salem Ohio in 2000; had been around before that as a fan, touring fan and involved with the Tri-State S/SS Association

Because it was fun and I enjoyed it.

I 'retired' in 2006; fed up with the NHRA/IHRA bull[bleep]. The costs went up, the fun went down, and I could/would not justify spending a thousand dollars and four days over three hundred miles from home and *hope* that, maybe, it'd be kind of fun. No plan to return. I enjoy doing the TSSSSA races and that keeps me involved in racing, seeing my friends, and it's more fun/less hassle than the way it was.

Cal:
I started the summer of 1964 at Charlestown R.I. after watching my older brother and his friend's in 1963. I started out with an H/Gas 1939 Chevrolet 6 cyl coupe and had a blast and was hooked. I did some street racing like everyone and built a C/MP 1955 Chevy until I went in the service (1967). When I came home I opened a Speed Equipment Shop here in Ma and raced my E/FO Stocker (AAR Cuda) with a Grand American Class Win in NH. We took a 10 year leave to raise the kid's then we went SST Racing in 1999 and won a Divisional with my son at E-Town in 2000 with our 1927 Ford Roadster and next year we will be running Stock Eliminator with two entry's and that is why we do what we do along with the nice people we have meet at the race's. Hope you get the bug as we did as I don't regret 1 event or any of the car's - Bob - Marie - Brett and Brooke (now with Husband's - Wives and Grand Son's)

Went to Mason- Dixon in Hagerstown, Md. with my cousin Vic Gulimino and the "Hombre" in 1963.

Got hooked that day.

Been racing since 1971.

Re: Silly Season is here question

1) I liked hot cars and I had a summer job sacking groceries and one of my co-workers was into NHRA stock eliminator racing.
2) Why? Because it's the only thing that gives you that gut feeling of nerves when you pull to the line for first round. Similar to a opening kick off from high school days. And winning a round, what a payoff for all the hard work for racing.
3)Started racing in the 70's but didn't really become active until 1987 when I got divorced. I could probably retire if I didn't want to race. At 63 I still enjoy it, but I've noticed I had quit trying to make my car go faster but rather I work at making my racing operation easier to handle at the track.(I'm a local bracket racer). Hope to race into my 70's another ten years or so.

I went to IslandDragway in 1963 and was hooked. I started racing in 1964 with a 1955 Plymouth, K/SA.
I race for the fun and excitement, and partying with friends and other racers at the track. I am part of division one's Brew Crew. Our coolers are always Stocked
I have been racing since 1964, except the two years was in Vietnam Nam.
I plan on racing until I just can't do it any more. The car I race now is a 1967 Plymouth GTX that my girlfriend bought new when I was overseas. We are still together and since 1975 this has been our racecar. Currently, the GTX runs in E/SA. We have taken this car from just barely running the index to a 10.84 on a 11.70 index. Still having FUN. JB

I went racing in 1994 at Seattle International Raceway to see how fast the 440 in my '72 Chrysler T&C was. I was instantly hooked.

I race because I love the people and the competition. I love cars but I get bored at car shows. I race Stock because it takes more than just money and I think that Stock and Super Stock are the coolest race cars at the track.

I don't have any plans to quit racing.
