A negative ion generator (ozonater) WILL do the trick. I have rescued several with them. Smells like an electrical storm has just passed over when done, rather fresh smelling. The mouse smell never returned even on the hottest days with windows closed. Some water treatment plants even use negative ions. It will neutralize bacteria. Hotels use them to turn smoking rooms into non smoking rooms. One word of caution is I've found some rubber trim items such as Hurst shifter boots tend to deteriorate from this.
