Thanks Tony.

Does the V-6 Mustang come with a 8.8 rear end ?

Sounds like the combo needs 4.56 (or higher) gears, 28 inch tall slicks, high stall convertor, and drag springs.

Would be great to get the car to run under the index with the factory 6 speed automatic.

They do have an 8.8.

4.56 with a 4.17 first gear? Good luck!

Is 4.17 the first gear ratio in the 6 spd auto ?

If so, 1st shift at 7500 rpm should be at 30-32 mph with a 28 inch slick..

Yes, this is why I had been running my 5.0 car with a 3.31 and 30" tire. Only uses 3 gears in a 1/4 and gets the overall ratio to something more manageable.

Al,
Kdanner is wright you have to watch what gear you run, my current tire is 28' tall I will be trying a 3.55 and a 3.73 maybe a 4.10 gear with both a 28' and a 29.5 tire just to see what it will gain. there is a lot to the tunes on these cars but it is all positive stuff ,will let you know how I make out !

Too bad it was rated at 260 hp. Should have been 230 hp, IMO.
Isn't the factory rating on this 305hp? So they took off 45 hp and you wanted more? I wish I could have 45hp off my factory rating.

Exactly! We own a 2011 Mustang with the 3.7 and it is a very impressive engine. I don't understand the reduction if Ford advertised to the puplic 305 Hp, why is it derated by NHRA without it going down the track as a stocker yet?

Just more of the same. Ford sponsoring a race next year?

There are a lot of cars that are under rated at first ! but it does not matter for as the first guy that goes a second or more under things will start to change adjustments in HP rating, lower index etc. so with that said you have to be a fool to blast the index ! Me personally am happy with 4 to 8 tenths under. just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions !
