I understand track expenses and all, but all i listed was Stock Elim money taken in
at $17,000. Div. 1 gets at least: SST- 60 cars SG- 60 cars SC- 90 cars SS- 70 cars. That's 280 more cars x $170. entry fee, plus crew members, at least 1 person x $50. Now if my math is correct that equals with 1 crew member going counting Stock Elim. $68,000 taken in minus Comp. Elim. Racers & Their Crew Members. Believe me I enjoy racing and do not expect to make tons of money doing so. It's a Great Hobby for me & i enjoyed racing & not racing for over 40 years. It seems like the pay-outs haven't changed in all these years, thats why i was suggesting to other racers to put in an extra 10 or 20 to make our own purse bigger. OK let the battle begin. |

The old argument was between paying NHRA and the alcohol cars, the tracks weren't making enough money to raise the purse. Now most tracks do not have the alcohol cars, so the huge payout to them went away. Looks to me like they should have brought some of that money back into the other classes and increased those payouts. If something doesn't change in the way of payouts, less and less people are going to show up. Years ago, most everyone I know made more money, it cost a lot less to go racing, so we all justified it as having fun and didn't worry so much about the payouts. Now that most don't make the money they used to make, cost to go racing has increased, they need to start enticing the racers with better payouts for most to keep showing up. I find myself not going to races that for years always went to, but now I look at the potential return on investment and it just doesn't make sence.

As I recall the topic of this thread is exactly why I put on the original US Class Nationals the year before I had gone to the 5th reound at Indy and just happened to be at the payout window with GREEK a child hood hometown hero I grew up with and we compared checks he got $7000 and didn't even qualify, I got $500 for 5 rounds of SS he then advised me to quit S/SS and get a fuel car
if I get stupid enough to do it again,is anyone ready for another one? and WILL division 1 NHRA and ALL IHRA racers support it this time?

An absolute disgrace! Gentlemen we all know a select few in NHRA are taking home bags of cash! At the Maple Grove LODRS race this year Nhra officials didn't want track emplyees to share their catered lunch! Amen to what Mike Carr said!

Yes! I was too young to race at the first one, but we were there all the way from Texas, and I would love to go to another.
