My partner, Harry Sparks and I, took our '57 Chevy sedan delivery to an NHRA Points Race in about 1968, at Blair Nebraska, and were denied entry until we "put some metal" in the holes in the dash where the controls for the heater had been.
I cut up a Pepsi can and taped the pieces to the dash; then we were allowed to race. Tech run amock...
