Pure Stock, "thoughts of the old days"

Not a very good picture but found this in an album at my mother's house. Probably taken in 1974 or 75. This was my old street Pinto, which I raced occasionally in X/S. It only ran in the 17's/18's, not very impressive. Straight stock 2000cc engine, Appliance header, not much gear, street tires. Only ran it at the local tracks. I drove it there and back home.

Even back in those days, there were usually a car or two that would show up. So, you often had to earn your class trophy. Typically, you got drilled in the first round of eliminator. Every great once in a while, a street car could go a round or two, best one could hope for.

Just a glimpse into a past of long ago. May not have been a "king of the strip". Sure was fun.

That reminds me of a POS company car we had at a place I worked in the mid-1980s. It was a beige Ford Escort with 13" black wheels and no power. I made a "Turbo GT" sticker for the trunk lid out of some striping material we used on the equipment we made. We all got a laugh out of that one!

My partner, Harry Sparks and I, took our '57 Chevy sedan delivery to an NHRA Points Race in about 1968, at Blair Nebraska, and were denied entry until we "put some metal" in the holes in the dash where the controls for the heater had been.

I cut up a Pepsi can and taped the pieces to the dash; then we were allowed to race.

Tech run amock...

Don't have any pictures of it. I also had a dull off green 67 Falcon, automatic with a 170ci 6 cylinder. It ran in Y/SA. That thing was slow! I have told this story before on the forum. I once ran it a local track and the power went out. We ran off a flagman. I spotted a B,C or D car, what seemed to be half the track (and an 1/8 at that). Still lost! That was close to 40 years ago, I can still recall that pass.
