What good would a bonding wire do if you have a plastic fuel jug?

Plastic on Plastic will still create Static electricity, thats why they also tell you not to fill your plastic jug in the back of your truck with a bedliner at the gas station for your lawnmower or whatever. Race Gas is much more flamable fume wise also I found that out first hand, one time ago... : 0

The static electricty from your body can be as high as 3000 volts of energy.

I repair various welders and most new PC boards and other components comes in 2 layers of anti-static packaging. I am also required to wear a grounding wrist strap while I work on this equipment.

Inverter based welders........

I do it in the winter when it's dry....

Pop the clothes right out of your dryer in the winter or drag your feet on the carpet and touch the light switch.....Pow....

Grounding everything may seem like overkill, but I've got a good friend in the hospital right now with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 18% of his body due to static electricity. He was under a hot rod in his shop preparing to remove the gas tank, and as a precaution the garage heat was off and there were no incandescent trouble lights or electric tools in use. The plastic creeper he was using must have built up a charge and when he reached for the last bolt a spark jumped from the wrench to the bolt and caused an explosion. He got out alive which is what's important, but he lost the garage and two collector cars.

Static electricity is bad news.
