If you race a slow car in a heavily populated class, you realistically are not ever going to be "World Champion".
I don't think there is a single car in the top 10 of Stock in 2011 that isn't capable of winning their fair share of heads up races. |

A slow car in a class has every chance in the world to win a race and even a championship. But as you noted, if the current top ten has an excellent chance of winning a heads top race, that means you would be out anyways.

If I really have to answer that then you did not pay attention to ANY of the points chases from this season. Santangelo having to win the Vegas race to win the world and he did, Jackie Alley passing Peter in vegas, and going into pomona still having a chance to get passed by bogner, so lets see that is a D-1 car a D-6 car and a D-5 car all with a shot at winning the world champoinship. It is like that every year in vegas, but since I have never seen you there maybe that is why you are missing out on it. And those are just 2 examples, S/G and Comp went down to the last race to decide the champions. There must be something in that Arizona water that you and Don are drinking because you guys come up with some off the wall ideas!! Don wants to change the points, then says he has no intentions on chasing the world, then why even waste peoples time and posting just to post? I don't know why I am suprised he does the same thing on FaceBook.

This is not about me so don't go there you are missing the whole point > it cost a lot of time and Money to chase points . we are not pros and don't need any kind of how exciting the points chase (Quite frankly no one cares especially NHRA) as the racers all had to spend a lot of money and time to win the lowly amount purse . I will admit when i was 18 I tried to deposit my ego in the bank and was turned down lol so the world chanpions just got their ego boosted which i understand but the amount of money to boost your ego is disgusting and most racers don't have the time and money by the way do your race ? and what kind of car do you have ?? just curious I have found out when a person in a discussion has no merit they then begin to attack the person , so please back off and stay the course in this discussion lol

Just simply stating facts, if you are feeling attacked please forgive me. I could see asking for little points for breaking a record, maybe even for Qualifying (which is going to make HP ratings and bogus combos even more of a cry fest in here) but you guys want to change the whole system! Yes I do race, I have a 1968 mustang that I race in SS/FA. My name is RJ Torres. I believe we have met before a time or two Don LoL |

Torres,
You still didn't answer the question. Why is it that anybody should take all the races they participated in and throw out the ones they did poorly in? If you (or anybody else) is such a great racer, claim the race before, not after. The current system forces one into racing more than they need to so they can throw out those bad days. Like I said, call the race and take the points. And if your having a bad day, feel like your in a funk, don't think the car is up to the task or whatever, don't claim the race and wait for a better day. And I really don't buy into the argument that the staging lanes are only half-full because of the economy. Maybe making a system such as Don & I suggest would bring more participation. It's more interesting who has NOT commented on the subject... ![]()

Billy, I`m sure that Jim was not saying that the competition in Div 1 or 3 (or ANY division) was easier, rather he was talking about proximity of NHRA National events. As Jim mentioned, here in Div. 6 we have a grand total of ONE national event, in a geographically large area. Every other division has a least 2 or more. For myself, Seattle is only about a bit over 150 miles, but the next "closest" National event is Sonoma, about 1200 miles one way. Jim is a bit further away, the racers in Alberta and Saskatchewan are at least 15-20 hours further away. Considering how far apart Boise, Mission, and Medford are also means attending the divisionals here will also rack up the miles. I realize that each division has some distance between races, but getting 2 or more nationals up here requires some long hours on the road. I`m just glad I`m not paying Jody Lang or Mark Fauls fuel bills!!

Actually, paying points and a little money for qualifying, records, and class would solve a lot of the problems with soft factors. I'd like to see class run at every event and have it pay points as well as some money, too. It would help make the AHFS work.

For Obama I assume. Your idea falls right in line with his governing style. Reward people who do the Minimum. Take from the people who want to work for a championship. The way I see it, If I don't win a couple races early, I don't have any money or points to chase the Title anyway. The point system is fine, only change needed is to reward the top 3 Qualifiers with points. That would help the AHFS
