I think our system is perfect now because even if you go to every single race you can only claim 3 nationals and 5 divisionals. In my opinion points is not the problem it's the payout's. Pay 5k to the winner at a national event and tell me if the racing economy doesnt start to get better in NHRA. |

If we're going to change the points system for Stock Eliminator and Super Stock, the changes should be to reflect the performance based nature of the classes.
We should be paying points for qualifying 1 thru 10, for class eliminations, for class wins, and for national records, we should also be paying bonus points for heads up wins in final eliminations.

Since this thread is about points,I will throw in my $4.42
If you go to a race with less than 64 cars and lose in the third round, you get 51 points. If you go to a race with MORE than 64 cars (like in Division 1 and 3) and lose in the third round, you only get 50 points. If you WIN a 6 round race, you get 105 points If you WIN a 7 round race, you also get 105 points (Seems like you get ripped off points for competing in divisions with higher car counts) Last edited by 442OLDS; 01-10-2012 at 09:23 PM. Now if it was "claim the race before you tech", then it would be perfectly acceptable. Yep, you have a bad day and go out 1st round then that's not a big payday on points. But with the current system, if I travel the continent, I can have many bad days and still come out ahead because I pick the gory days and throw out the bad days. If your a great racer, a truly great racer, you should have no problem in claiming a race before, not after. Kinda like speed dating instead of a single blind date... ![]()

if it were me I would have a points system for the national championship This way.
A racer can get points at your home division only ,your best 5 divisional races count as points out of 7 races . If you set a national record , you get points , if You qualifiy number one you get points . The the top two or three of each division show up for The National championship ,either at a race specially for them , or have a round robin type format or the normal format for eliminations . . The reason in This economic enviroinment is very obvious Money and time is not there for over 90% of the racers to chase the points . Right now the present system is set up for the 10% to 15 % of the racers who either have a lot of money to race or have a lot of time to race . Just look at who at the winners the last ten years , heck i bet even they would like this system especially now .

I've long considered the "accident of proximity" a poor yardstick for geographic divisions. Just because someone lives in Div. 2 doesn't mean that they're close to more than one LODRS located in that Division, and then you're also locking people into a fairly strict schedule. If you want to get into it, really the idea of geographic regions is somewhat antiquated. The primary reason for having Divisions is just for folks that don't want to travel as much, but if you're going to "fix" a points system to make travel less of a burden, then can the idea of "Divisions" entirely, add the awards and funds to the national chase, and make all LODRS wildcards. Go to the (however many) races that are close for YOU, and/or fit YOUR schedule. No, I'm not advocating the sweeping change. Just enjoying the mental gymnastics.
