There was a time not to long ago, if you finished or were going to finish in the top 5 (maybe 10) of the IHRA Championship, you had a mandatory tear down before the end of the season. Is this still in effect?

Additionally, IHRA is the only place I've raced that did an electronic inspection. I believe it was at The Rock a few years ago, they pulled us off the scales, and Baker along with someone else checked all our wires, under the dash, ignition, including the function of the two steps, and line locks. This was completely unannounced.JB

Denver 08 NHRA Mile High they did a COMPLETE and DETAILED inspection of all wiring on My Demon. They were extremely courteous and extraordinarily efficient. Process took an Hour and seemed like eight! Also that year at Sportnationals in Fontana...... requested that I jack all four wheel up two feet and inspected complete underside of car including brakes/ Four Wheel line lock , driveline, suspension , and suspected transbrake, wiring once again. At 2010 Vegas in Nov.on Robbies Roadrunner they carefully measured all glass dimensions, roof height/width, Windshield angle/length with that of another know car for half an hour. Tech Director had been tipped of by another competitor that top was chopped and laid back!.......... NOT!!
All these unannounced!! Last edited by GTX JOHN; 02-01-2011 at 07:27 AM. |

Seems like I'd run across one national per year where they'd check something... one time tire width (got out "The Myron Gauge"!), one time for ballast, one for line-locks and transbrakes, one for long buttons. And yes, it used to be Top 10 in the World had to come apart at some point during the year.

Both organizations have reduced teardowns, it appears. They are no fun for the teardownee for sure. But without the threat I fear that we will become just another bracket class. When teardowns are conducted after an absence, they usually find some rules infractions. Light pistons, light rods, etc.
Someone mentioned filing a protest, the fees imposed are so high it discourages all but the most flagrant situtations from being exposed. If everyone is comfortable with the current practice, then let's race on.
