I not happy about the handbrake rule.....they are 2 independent systems....they don't need to be connected.....Danny had a problem with this for some reason.....I'm not sure what their goal was....the foot pedal is much more aggressive than the handbrake....the sportsman advisory council unanimously approved it....

So I remove my hand brake operated set of brakes to satisfy Danny Gracia. Since my second set was added after the car was initially built the 2 sets can't be tied together. The master cylinders are nowhere near each other.

One day I am racing at xyz dragstrip and my brake pedal goes to the floor as I attempt to stop. I pull my chute as fast as I can but hit the end of the track at 50+ mph......My car is destroyed, I am injured, maybe badly or worse...

If my second set of brakes was still in the car I stopped fine with no problem. Ask any racer who has experienced this exact scenario if they would have liked to have a second set of brakes....

This is theoretical of course but it is easy to see it could and has happened.

Makes no sense to me at all....

The council voted to allow 2 seperate systems...every one of us....For some reason Danny doesn't like the second system....Its a safety item....I can't understand it....

I had 4 calipers connected to my brake pedal in my dragster....why would 2 calipers on seperate masters be more aggressive than that....? I will continue to try to get this fixed....I'm sure we will talk again at PRI....

Thanx for your concern and follow-up hopefully common sense will kick in...one other question...why have a vote if there is already a decided outcome??

Anyone know who makes an engine diaper for a stock front-end Chevy Super Street car? Diapers on all S/ST required in 2012 - but not Stock and Super Stock of course. I assume someone with better engineering credentials than me can tell me how I'm supposed to get one on.

Rich, it is not a theory...it happened to me! This year at BG going through tech the tech guy wanted me to take the hand brake out....we discussed and he said ok but be ready too if someone complians.

First pass 6.67-204 pulled the chute, hit the foot brake....nothing, pumped....nothing by now I'm 1/3 through the shut down and still going prolly 170? Got on the hand brake and safely stopped. If I had not had the hand brake, 2nd system, I would have crashed! The second chute would have gotten me maybe to 80-100 by the time I hit the trees, pretty sure an undercover doesn't like trees at 80-100 mph, lol!

Bottom line, a line shook loose from tire shake and if I had not have had my hand brake the car would have been wrecked, ? on if I would have been hurt.

We need 2nd independent brake systems MANDATORY if over 200 IMO.

Thanks to the Tech man for letting me slide, he saved my car!!!! And maybe me!

Thanks Rock for the explanation and the support on this issue.

Lynn that is a story NHRA ought to pay attention to and I'm glad the Tech guy did the right thing for you in tech.......at those speeds you need all the safety you can get......
