Sucks to be you Larry! In the past you could not win because the fast guys were bending the rules, or outright cheating. Now you can't win because of the new cars. If you think you can't win, YOU CAN'T WIN. New cars break, drivers snooze, go red, fail fuel check, don't make weight or maybe even get bounced in tech, the list is endless. They can, have been and will be beaten by guys who have not interviewed your 3 top engine builders. But, you say it's a no win situation for you. So, NHRA creates an F/X class, and you are still stuck with those pesky scofflaws in the upper classes. I'm not saying the new cars are right, but I certainly don't think this would be the end of your fault finding missions.

Excellent analysis! And while Larry should not take it personal, I think this summarizes the attitude of a LOT of racers, or at least the racers who post online.
And Andy's Dad has it right also. If you think it's the way to go, go that direction with a positive attitude!

If you believe in that much luck, may as well play the lottery.

We have to, however, believe that NHRA is not only aware of this dilemma, but also actively working on changes for the 2011 season. Comments on this site have helped to raise awareness and facilitate the upcoming changes.
I don't believe that NHRA is that blind.

This was posted earlier on another thread, in alot of ways sounds like a garbage truck beeping as it backs up. I think its great to see factory involvement BUT the playing fields should be level or at least a lot more reasonable. This topic has been beaten to death but it affects everyone regardless if we all want to admit that point or not.

Thumbs up Re: Consensus By Professional Engine Builders

I don't get it, 99% of you guys that are crying over this can't out run the top 5 guys with "traditional" cars anyway. You don't see Bobby D, Jimmy D or Joe Sorensen crying and fire selling all there stuff. I guess I might listen a little more if you were the fastest guy in the class but I don't think you are in the top 10!

Tommy, a friend of mine, Stewart Beckham, said hello.

You are correct my old Cuda never was fast, all of the class trophies must have come from yard sales.

Tommy
I assume Bobby, Jimmy and Joe rarely post on the internet because they are working dilligently to stay on top of their game and stay competetive. Since you say you have not heard from any racers in the top of their class I felt compelled to reply .As you know, over the years I have tried to be fast and was occasionally rewarded with a record or three. Now you arn't really so callious to think these aforementioned front running racers and their" traditional" cars deserve to be rendered non competetive in heads up competetion by the new combos. All we accomplish by this is to force these beautiful old muscle cars away from racing and ultimately reduce car counts. This is not good for NHRA or stk/ss. I don't believe any real racer wants this kind of scenario, but only wishes a fair chance to win with his or her chosen ride. For some, "going with confidence" is not currently possible. I am confident NHRA want to reduce this disparity, and is working at this as we speak.
Hope to see you and your dad this fall
GP
