If its something less obvious ( suspected acid heads or wrong pistons, light crank, etc) then I would only protest him if it were someone in my own class, and only if i was sure. Something grey area or unstated, I'd say is probably racers just being creative. I may ask tech if "XXXXXX" is legal, and if not they may want to keep a look out. If its something that has no measurable effect, or is just nit picking then its not worth worrying about.
I'd also venture to say thay if you got on the wrong side of someone in tech, they could probably find something to throw you out for. Usually they are good about small items, saying "change that before you come back". I most definitely would not want a reputation as a "tattle tale" amongst the tech department. I've found that most of the division guys are very helpful, I never hesitate to call them if I have a question.

Any car can be thrown out any time if a tech guy wants to. Something can be found on any car. We all know that. We depend on our tech guys to be fair and reasonable. Jim
