And if I were in a profession which performed back ground checks for job retention, promotions or change in employment, the last thing I would want is my name all over the internet as a blogger.
I don't think posting on a racing website will get the attention of Soviet intellegence. If Mr SSDiv6 didn't tell us of his "sensitive" employment I don't think it would have been an issue. But every time someone posted an opinion of what can possibly be a solution to helping save someone from dying while racing there he was telling us it wouldn't work. How many major advances in history were laughed at/mocked by so called experts. Oh yeah i forgot, the world is flat. Maybe if he offered some constructive ideas I wouldn't be so crass in my posts here.

Ed, best I can tell, the only thing he has been really wrong about is the secondary parachute retention. And you should consider that while NHRA is looking at such a device, they already had an updated or upgraded parachute mounting spec.
It is just as necessary to have people point out the problems with ideas as it is to have people to propose ideas. That's how ideas are developed and refined.

Being in an industry that spends a lot in R&D, there is a lot of technology in both aerospace and motor sports that are aligned. In the past, I had my share of discussions with SFI as regards to many issues including metallurgy, welding and other stuff just to go in to deaf ears. I am not the only one; Brad Hadman, who is considered one of the premiere chassis builders for Alcohol and Fuel classes has also clashed with SFI and NHRA many times as regards to issues related to these classes. I do not consider myself to know it all, however, due to my job, I have a lot of tribal knowledge on technology that allows me to be selective on what may or may not work. In addition, I go and pick on the brains of many of my colleagues that are experts in many areas such as metallurgy, stress, brake design and many other areas that can be in sync with our sport. As a matter of fact, many motor sports teams even contract our wind tunnel facilities and experts for their own R&D. As many are curious about aerospace technology, many of my colleagues are also curious and intrigued about motor sports. |
