Being in an industry that spends a lot in R&D, there is a lot of technology in both aerospace and motor sports that are aligned. In the past, I had my share of discussions with SFI as regards to many issues including metallurgy, welding and other stuff just to go in to deaf ears. I am not the only one; Brad Hadman, who is considered one of the premiere chassis builders for Alcohol and Fuel classes has also clashed with SFI and NHRA many times as regards to issues related to these classes. I do not consider myself to know it all, however, due to my job, I have a lot of tribal knowledge on technology that allows me to be selective on what may or may not work. In addition, I go and pick on the brains of many of my colleagues that are experts in many areas such as metallurgy, stress, brake design and many other areas that can be in sync with our sport. As a matter of fact, many motor sports teams even contract our wind tunnel facilities and experts for their own R&D. As many are curious about aerospace technology, many of my colleagues are also curious and intrigued about motor sports. |
