Bernie, if you mean I don't have a gun in this fight because I am not fast enough to get horsepower, you are correct.(same as you) If you mean I don't have a gun in this fight because I don't have the race cars indicated in my signature...you are incorrect...If you mean I don't have a gun in this fight because I haven't raced in 2 years.....I haven't. ...I had a stroke....hope to be cleared to race this fall. And, I have raced the US Nationals, which this post is about.

If you reread my post, very clearly, I stated that I do not support this senerio. But I believe we, as class racers, need to be aware how easy NHRA could change things. Don't shoot the messenger.

The part of this is, I don't understand that before the decision was made on this change, why wasn't there a communication set up to ask the racers if they wanted this. A poll or email to all members of the nhra. I think that to put this rule into effect with out asking the masses is bs, my opinion. To allow under rated cars that have not been factored are now ruling the roost and insulting the cars that have been over factored.

In my opinion if that was NHRA's motive they could have secretly used the ammunition gathered over past National Open events where most competitors raced with no fear what so ever of the AHFS and It could have been corrected long ago. My believe is that NHRA is reacting to the many complaints from racers who are totally unhappy with the fact that the Factory Shootout cars are being allowed "special privileges" by being exempt from the AHFS and therefore dominating the top half of the qualifying sheet.

Alan, I also agree with what Mike said in his post. If NHRA wanted to make changes the info is out there already.

For Indy this year just use the old adage - "Run what you brung and hope you brung enough."

I would imagine this decision was made based upon
the manufacturers and some of the racers input to try to
encourage as many of the late model factory stockers
and super/stockerstoers show up as possible without
fear of facing horse power penaltys for "AHFS" infractions.
Unfortunately th older combos probably are not all that great
for business for many. Some.. but not many...
