Wink Re: How to Books Is there one for Stock or Super Stock?

Pick a class like A,B,orC stock, Port heads for max flow then acid the ports to cover up grind marks, angle mill ex ports. Move guides and seats for better flow. Buy a set of custom pistons move pin up in them, cut the hell out of the deck to get deck hight right, re stamp pistons with correct #. Now go to indy MAYBE be one of the fastest in the class, go to tear down and you will find a lot of authors for you book.LOL!!!!

I like this one,
I once heard a story of a guy with a 69 Camaro SS/DA car that went to tear down with a cooler of Ice. He pulled the head off the car to be CCed and dropped the head in the cooler of ice .After 15 minutes pulled it out of the cooler and said pour it now befor it warms up again.
LOL

But that's not uncommon, it's not cheating and it makes sense. If the combustion chamber is very close to spec, you run the risk of coming up small during teardown if you measure it when the head is very warm. The alcohol expands when heated so not as much will fill the chamber during measurement. You are smart to get the head back to the same general temp it was when it was checked in your shop.

Years ago Dempsy Hardy's stocker GTO Judge was DQd @ Indy for class because he didn't know that trick. They were a little anal back then, a friends Cobrajet Mustang stocker was DQd for class @ Indy for having 1 TRW pushrod accidently mixed in with the stock 15. Now there's a real performance advantage for you

You're right, that is a good book. I met Arvid at Jim Lewis's shop. He's a very nice guy. Jim Hale ran the engine in that article last year. If I remember right he went 11.40s in H/SA which is pretty fast, but as Mr. Cimarolli stated technology is constantly changing. Engine builders who do alot of R&D are always finding a little something here and there. Derek
