You guys crack me up. Last year when everyone and his brother were running these cars balls out you were decrying them as Satan incarnate. Now, Bartom goes 1.3 under and you act like he's the first one to make a full pass.
I saw Carey Bales testing with Merryfield's DP at US 41 last Saturday night. They were #3 last year at 1.73 under. This year they weren't even going to Indy because the car has been hit 4 times and can now only run .7 or so under. Looks like they should have gone, the bubble was only .631 under. Yes, the new cars are killer on heads-up runs, but they have not been very successful in the bracket racing part. Last edited by bigshow2966; 09-01-2011 at 09:27 PM. |

Have to say I am a die-hard Mopar man and it sucks for other to treat someone in such a way. I'm 27 and this is my 21 consecutive year going to Indy. I still love the old school cars and hope to race one there in the coming years. The new ones are cool and I still think both will co-exist.

Just look at the facts. Barton’s 65 coronet (which is owned by Al Carp) is one of the fastest in the country. When he was running the 70 Hemi challenger it was one very fast car with a terrible weight break, at the time 457HP rating. All the SS/AH car’s he drives and maintains are always very competitive and very fast, so let’s give some credit to the engine builder Ray Barton for a job well done. David is a great driver who is only getting better, so it’s just a matter of time before the new challenger is a national event winner, and boy do I miss racing.

Great Job by the Barton Boys ! All the mopar guys can bi8ch all they want, Ma Mopar is dead, no free cars were given out the owners paid with cash and can do what they want. No help from the factory forth coming. The old days are gone and Fiat only wants your $$$$$

What I dont understand is the mentality of most of the younger guys watching, reading and posting on here. Evidently you know NOTHING about class racing and what goes into building and running a class car. All you know is what you see from the grand stands or read in a car magazine. What is it that you cannot grasp. Its not the fact they are NEW cars, Its NOT the FI or computer controlls. It is the damn current HORSE POWER FACTORS that determines the weight and class that these bogus HP cars are running in. The whinning and gripes have NOTHING to do with the fact that they are NEW or one of 50 or maybe never made any except on paper. If you rely on the AHFS then MAYBE in about 10 years the HP factors MIGHT catch up to where they should belong to start with. By the time that happens most current racers will be to old or to broke to race anymore. you young guys wont take up the slack when the racers like Woodro Josey, Joh Livingston, and many many more have retired and left off. I dont care if the factory made one or none. Factor them correctly, put them in the correct class or stock and S/S is a dead horse in a few years. NHRA is sick of them anyway except for the entry and membership money they bring in. Yeah a few will hang on, fight it until the end, or switch if they can afford it. To many are staying home if they see they dont have a chance in hell at winning a heads up run and when enough of the new cars are in the fields the old cars wont even qualify for the eliminator much less have a shot at winning class or a heads up run unless the combos blow up as some are doing at Indy this week. Its not just SS/AA. SS/BA, AA, A, and B stock either. Right now it goes down to around L stock. Some are running in S/S with a stocker and flying. With one or only two running the new Mustangs in the lower classes they have complete control over the AHFS and their HP factor and will never get hit unless they get tired of wearing out their brakes or their ego's over ride their azz. .
