Yeah, not many Pontiac powered stick cars still competing. JB Clegg has the only other one I can think of right off the bat.
I still occasionally think of my 1st Pontiac hero, Truman Fields. Won the '73 US Nats, and set a new nat record, with his '68 RA2 stick Bird. The car won again a few years later, with a different driver. Another trivia fact is that the runner up that year was also Pontiac powered, and it was his 3rd US Nats RU in a row. That may still be a record. http://www.risesales.com/pages/Dragr.../t_fields.html http://www.competitionplus.com/compe...-amateur-video "... Mick Leiferman probably holds the record for Indy frustration? He reached the Stock final three straight years (1975, 1976, 1977) and finished as runner-up all three times. He has never won the U.S. Nationals..." Nowadays, it's tuff to be competitive with a stick. But, it IS lots of fun. ![]() Adam has said he might try a 350HO engine this season. Lookin forward to seeing how much he can get out of it. Last edited by oldskool; 03-09-2018 at 06:33 PM. |

We are done for the day, and like Patsy said we are going right into first round tomorrow because pending weather on Sunday. The internet is very slow so I only have one set of photos, uploading them is taking a very long time.
Qualifying sheets should be up on DRC later tonight. |

During SS qualifying Chuck Comella was held back from going down the track ? Not sure why but I swear I see the water box attendant spray water on his quarter panel for about 2 seconds. Go to - 2.20 and decide?? Optical illusion maybe.

Sorry I've been MIA this weekend but I had a couple issues to deal with plus I have my little girl to deal with also. As Ken mentioned the internet is suspect and I've had trouble uploading pictures also. I'll do better next weekend so I don't get fired. I also need to thank Emily Stott Volkman for all her help with Piper this weekend, my little girl was missing her mama this morning and Emily went into mama mode and everything was OK in a few minutes. First round in the morning and as soon as we find out if anyone comes in tonight a ladder will be out.

ight now we have mine-shaft conditions, you know the top qualifier of the bottom half of the sheet is at least .850 under. We have 81 stockers on the sheet and tech is open today so we could have racers enter and be placed at the bottom of the sheet. If five racers enter stock today and bring the field to 86 mine shaft conditions will still met according to NHRA rules. If entry in stock jumps to 87 or above no mine-shaft conditions and all runs will count for "Q" and "E" data.
