Mike Boyles still owns and drives "Charlie Brown", usually at the Classic Gear Jammer races and Div 9 IHRA, nice guy and a real crowd pleaser.

Neil, how can remember all those names? Myron, my buddy says that NHRA ran the sticks and autos separately down to Q and QA, then combined them in the slower classes from SS/R through SS/X. That Hutch car may have been called 'Good 'ol Charlie Brown'.....He also remembers a '55 Chevy in the class sponsored by the US Army, and a couple of guys in NY....Bob Davies and a Bob Mech??? Wanted to know if anyone remembers a guy down South with a '60 Chevy named Lightfoot (not the singer), and a guy with an early Olds named Hear, probably in a lower class....Were the early Olds cars sticks or autos? Sorry I posted here....too many Buds...but here's a real tech question.....Whatever happened to Stroh's beer???

Hey SS,
I think Stroh's had a brewery (refinery) in Longview Tx. I think it was closed when the beer companies started all this buy-out & brand suffle a few years ago. I have a customer that worked there & we were talking about it the other day. He said the Brewery (refinery) part was disassembled & they are still using the warehouse for another brand, can't remember which. I would assume that you guys consumed the remaining Stroh's inventory !!! Adger Smith

SS, Randy Heer ran the "OLDS SPIRIT" I think 52 olds. It was always a stick car. After that he ran a couple of cutlasses in stock and super stock. About twenty something years ago, he purchased a 69 camaro from Jerry Dover which was Kenne Koonce's A/SA car. He still runs it today but they still call him the Rocket Man.

Wow, Bud..
A walk down memory lane. Thanks, I have spent a few hours at that place. I think the first car is one I purchased in 1977 from Dennis Faerman. He ran in F & G/MP It had B. Jones & D. Faerman on the door when I bought it and was a silver color. It is still around here in Arkansas some where. Dennis Faerman Lyle Cherry (V.W) ? Herbert Bushnell Eddie Conrad Pete Perry Curtis Keene (Keene & Smith) Bill Gibbs Glen Self (Stormin Six) That had to be in the early 70's I hope I identified those correctly & didn't butcher the spelling too much. I'm sure I could or should recognize a few more, but .... Age. There were some real fine races @ East Tex. it's a shame it is a retail shopping center now. When I go by it I can't even tell where it was. There are some real well know racers that have passed through those gates. Some went as far as being Pro's. Adger Smith

wannabe, I think the 60 Chevy you are thinking about was Morris Lightfoot from around Bowling Green Ky. If I remember correctly he was usually fast.

I'm actually drinking a Stroh's right now! It used to be brewed in Detroit, but now your guess is as good as mine. I think they're owned by the same people as Pabst.
Yup, owned by Miller. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroh_Brewery_Company Also, note that they've changed their slogan from "America's Fire Brewed Beer" to "America's Premium Brewed Beer." Edit: Bud, awesome video! ~Pete 1970 Nova 12.653@105.43
