An auto parts store that is equipped with an alternator tester can the job. It is not complicated nor high tech. You can also bench test it with a drill and battery and jumper wires. If the alternator puts out at drill speed and sounds normal, it will put out at higher speeds. You are simply looking for voltage, the amperage output will be OK if the voltage is in range. [of course, there are always unusual exceptions but in general, this is true]
