Anyone know of someone running a 10-11MY, L99 Auto combo Camaro in either in SS/FA (light) or SS/GA (natural)? Just curious. I don't see many cars of this era made into 'normal' super stock cars. Rather COPO's and go-fast hood scoop GT's, high dollar build, etc classes. Just curious. The more I look at these cars, the more I get excited about racing one. I could run local to me Pts Meets, GLSSSA races, normal Sunday no box bracket stuff and multi day no box races too. Between all of that, I could race 15+ weekends a year, driving more than 2.5 hrs just 3 times, for the NHRA pts meets, and Indy is the long drive at just 4.5 hrs. With 3 kids total, 2 under 3 yrs old and working 50 hrs a week, that shouldn't be hard to pull off, right????

Wow , a 2010 Camaro SS has a shipping weight of almost 3800 lbs , that makes quite a heavy car to run in Super Stock GT .

Yes, overall it a heavy car. I am not currently planning to run this car in GT at any point in the future. But just for me to learn, does the FGT/G Class min wgt value (3400# minus driver) listed below apply to all cars in that class or just this Camaro specifically? I guess the same question applies to the chart for the SS/FA class. Never raced, sat in or built a super stock car but based on what I know about new cars, I believe I can ditch 400# easy and not cheat to do so. I am willing to give it a shot, in the future with no guarantees of success, expecting to make dumb and costly mistakes (hopefully just not unsafe for me or others) and doing all of the fab, paint, interior, wiring and engine work myself. I would like to build the trans and rearend too. I don't plan on being the fastest car in the country in any class, I want to have fun, try to go rounds, and continue to learn, a LOT! I want to see what I can do, on my own and hope that it helps me in my career too.

Come to Norwalk end of August to the NMCA COPO SHOOTOUT. You should get lots of ideas there.

In Super Stock GT you are allowed to run at the min weight of your natural class or the minimum weight of the next slower class , but you are only allowed to remove up to 250 lbs from the shipping weight get to the next faster class , you may not actually get to that classes "min" weight . So if the shipping weight is 3800 lbs and you get to remove 250 lbs then add 170 for driver weight the car is still a 3720 lb race car . My point is that's kind of heavy . The "natural class" and the next slower class is even heavier . I guess if you run it as a COPO with one of the COPO engines you could run much lighter , but if you run in SS GT its going to be heavy .

I was bummed that there was no more D3 pts meets within closer than an 8 hr drive the rest of this year, but this got me excited. Wouldn't ya know, my wife has a girls weekend, that weekend. Maybe I'll drag my herd of Domestic Terrorist children down there for the day, and buy their cooperation with an overnight stay at Kalahari waterpark...Or trick one of the grandparents in watching them for the day so I can go play race cars. ![]()
